On this day in 1972, inmates at a Washington, D.C. jail seized control of part of the facility, taking hostages and demanding to be released. "We want you to understand one thing very clearly. This is not a riot, it's a revolution."

El Centro de la Raza Founded (1972)Oct 11th, 1972

On this day in 1972, ESL staff from South Seattle Community College, students, and families occupied a vacant school building in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, founding El Centro de la Raza ("The Center for the People of All Races").
